The Imo State correspondent of The Sun newspapers, Stanley Uzoaru has emerged the Imo State Correspondent of the year.
According to the results unveiled by the committee for the Governor Hope Uzodimma Media Excellence Award (GHUME), Uzoaru got the highest vote to beat other contestants in that category. The GHUME award was initiated by Governor Uzodimma in 2022 to encourage journalists in Imo State.
Chairman of the committee, Ukana Omon unveiled the winners on Thursday, January 4, 2024 while submitting the report of the committee to the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba. While submitting the list of the winners to Emelumba, Omon said the committee members were painstaking in their selection, adding that the 2023 edition was driven by technology as all entries were done online.
Responding, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba commended the committee for a job well done.
Emelumba said that the committee did a thorough and exhaustive job with evidence of scientific know-how. He assured that the next edition would be better, adding that Gov Uzodimma was happy and committed to the awards.
The Commissioner disclosed that the presentation of the awards will be done after the inauguration of the governor for a second term in office, stressing that by the time the governor completes his second term, the awards would have been institutionalised. He reiterated that the awards would enhance the careers of the journalists even as he said that the awards would also create a sense of elation in those who eventually win them.
The committee is made up of Ukana Omon (Chairman); Williams Unadike (Secretary); Mrs Violet Igwe, Mrs Chinwe Asogu, Anthony Ozor, Chris Dimgba, Chris Njoku, Ifeanyi Nwanguma and Gele Agbai.
