The NerdzFactory Foundation, in collaboration with Access Corporation, has launched the TechDrive Programme, a transformative initiative designed to bridge Nigeria’s digital skills gap by equipping 5,000 secondary school students in Ogun State with essential technology skills.
Recognising the barriers Nigerian youth face, only 43 percent of the population has internet access, while unemployment rates have risen to 53.4 percent, the programme aims to empower young Nigerians, preparing them for careers in an increasingly digital economy.
The TechDrive Programme, which will run through October to December 2024, blends advocacy with hands-on training. Through advocacy sessions, students gain exposure to the tech field and understand its vast career possibilities, allowing them to envision futures empowered by digital knowledge.
Additionally, 50 students will receive specialised training in web design, equipping them with foundational skills that can open doors to job opportunities or entrepreneurial paths.
Ademulegun Olowojoba, executive director of NerdzFactory Foundation, highlights the critical role this initiative plays in supporting youth education and Nigeria’s economic growth.
“The TechDrive Programme is a vital investment in the future of Nigerian youths. By narrowing the digital divide, we are unlocking the potential for innovation and socio-economic progress in Ogun State,” Olowojoba said.
He credits the partnership with access corporation for enabling the initiative, calling it a ‘bold vision’ for community empowerment.
