Grief has gripped Nollywood following the untimely demise of two female stars, Sola Awojobi Onayiga, popularly known as Ireti in the defunct Television drama series, Fuji House of Commotion and Ada Ameh, who played the role of Anita in the movie ‘Domitilla’ in 1996 and also famous for her comic characters, especially in the series, The Johnsons.
According to Husseini Shaibu, a movie and culture critic, Ireti died yesterday morning.
“I just learnt that the accomplished stage and screen actress and Fellow of Theatre Art, Auntie Sola Awojobi Onayiga passed on today (yesterday).
“Auntie Sola is known for living delightfully the role of Ireti, aka cooking practical in the defunct Checkmate! Journey well, ma,” he tweeted.
She was admitted at the ICU, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital a fortnight ago. Shortly after her education, she worked with the Federal Capital Development Authority.
She was also a student of National Institute of Internal Auditors for two years before dropping out to study Theatre Art at the University of Ife.
Apart from acting, she ventured into politics and contested on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2015 for the House of Assembly, Ikorodu Constituency 1.
Veteran actress Ameh, passed on two years after losing her only child, Aladi Godsgift.
Several reports stated that Ada Ameh died in Delta hospital around 11 pm on Sunday, July 17.
Ameh was said to have been a guest of an oil company toyshop and his family when she suddenly collapsed.
She was rushed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s hospital but passed on before they arrived at the facility.
It was also gathered that several movie stars have been trooping the facility, yesterday morning, to see her remains.
Born on May 15, 1974, in Ajegunle, Lagos, the popular actress shared a video of her eating with the family around 12:53 pm on Sunday on her official Instagram page.
