The camp of Team Edo at the ongoing National Sports Festival tagged Gateway Games 2024 has further raised concerns that the Main Organisation Committee (MOC) is plotting to deny Edo State its rightful position.
A highly placed source in the entourage of the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission laments that even after the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Agharese Patricia Efe-Amenze, had at the weekend raised concerns on the improper place of Team Edo in the medals table, the MOC has still not corrected the table, two days after her press conference
The source said as at Saturday May 24, Team Edo has scooped 134 medals comprising of 33 gold, 56 silver and 45 bronze as against a total of 107 medals of 14 gold, 48 silver and 45 bronze.
“By our calculation, Team Edo should be in either 3rd or 4th position at the moment but the MOC is still placing us at 6th position.
“ This is highly regrettable considering the calibre of people at the helms of affairs in the National Sports Commission,” the source lamented.
According to the source, in the estimation of the Edo State Sports Commission, Gymnastics fetched Team Edo additional four gold medals after the outcry by the permanent secretary but the MOC ignored these feats and instead aggregate just four gold medals in gymnastics after initially ignoring them when Mrs. Agharese Patricia Efe-Amenze first raised the concern.
