Lau retains seat

Jalingo, the Taraba capital, and some other areas of the state are celebrating following the announcement of the result of the Taraba South Senate election, which the candidate of the APC won in a landslide, defeating Governor Darius Ishaku.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof Adeyeye Solomon, who announced the results in Wukari on Monday, said that APC candidate David Jimkuta received a total of 85,415 votes to defeat Governor Ishaku of the PDP, who received 45,708 votes.

The results from the local government areas that make up the zone indicate that the APC candidate scored 17,607 votes in Donga local government area, while PDP’s Ishaku scored 10,492. The APC got 13,087 votes as against PDP’s 8,092 in Ibi, 22,246 against 4,098 in Ussa/YSDA, 20,892 as against 12,988 in Wukari and 11,581 votes as against 9,640 from Takum.

The APC candidate won in all the local government areas, including in the governor’s home town of Takum.

Meanwhile, the Senate Deputy Minority leader Senator Shu’aibu Isa Lau has been declared the winner of the just concluded Taraba North Senatorial elections.

Taraba North comprises Jalingo, Lau, Karim-Lamido, Zing, Yorro and Ardo-kola Local Government areas.

The returning officer for the Taraba Northern Senate election, Prof Chibiya Paul Chingu, DVC Central Administration, Federal University, Wukari, said the candidate returned elected with a total number of 74,645 votes to defeat his opponent Sani Abubakar Danladi who scored 61,878 votes.
