Former Governor of Plateau State, Sir Fidelis Tapgun, has condoled with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the death of the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Namang was murdered in Pankshin, Plateau central, on Saturday night while hanging out with friends at a relaxation joint. The owner of the joint, Sunny Okonkwo, was equally killed by the rampaging gunmen.
The APC publicity scribe, a consummate and accomplished journalist, worked with Plateau Publishing Company (PPC) publishers of the Nigerian Standard and rose to the position of a general manager.
He was also at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) where he served as General Manager of Lafia FM Radio for 4 years from where he was made the spokesman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in his home State.
He also worked with the late Deputy Senate President Senator Ibrahim Mantu as his Chief Press secretary.
Tapgun, who spoke to our correspondent in Jos expressed dismay at the manner of Namang’s death and urged the entire men of the pen profession to accept his death with equanimity.
“I sympathize with the entire journalists in Nigeria and on the Plateau over this unfortunate loss. As an astute professional, Namang contributed his own quota to uplifting the profession. I know that his death, just as the death of other journalists in Nigeria, will never be in vain.”
The former governor, who was also former minister and former ambassador to Kenya, tasked the Nigerian police to do everything to unravel the mystery behind Namang’s murder.
Daily Sun recalled that a Federal High court had given the police marching orders to investigate the death of a former director with Newswatch magazine, Dele Giwa, who was murdered throughout a letter bomb on October 19, 1986
