The provision of empowerment kits and supports to men who are residents of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Rivers State, by Switch-On Foundation team has been greeted with excitement by recipients as it creates a new lease of life for them.
Admonishing beneficiaries at the event in Opobo town, headquarters of the local council area, member representing Opobo/Nkoro and Andoni federal constituency, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, said it was important for them to use the opportunity to improve their economic fortunes.
He said the positive impact on their lives by the kits would serve as encouragement for the organisers to do more in empowering rural people.
The lawmaker warned them against indolence and temptation to sell off the equipment provided, saying it would amount to not being serious to change their economic status.
Abiante assured the foundation of their readiness to partner with the nonprofit organisation to empower more rural people to improve the rural economy.
Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie advised the beneficiaries that they should not allow the good intentions of the NGO be in vain, by ensuring that they make adequate use of the items provided and that those receiving training persevere to truly acquire the skills they have been registered.
The 2022 SWITCH-ON empowerment programme saw the provision of training kits, empowerment equipment, scholarships and business supports to 219 beneficiaries cutting across 142 units of the 11 wards of Opobo/Nkoro local government area.
