About ten suspected members of a cult group have reportedly gunned down a motorcycle mechanic simply identified as Ifeanyi at Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
A resident of the area who wished not to be named told Sunday Sun that the incident was not unconnected with the supremacy war between two major cult groups in the area.
The assailants, it was gathered, had gone to Ifeanyi’s home at Amaegu community that fateful night, but were disappointed as they did not meet him. They trailed him to his girlfriend’s home in another village, Amuzu, where they fished him out and killed him.
“When the men armed with different weapons stormed Amuzu, Ifeanyi was found in the lady’s room; he was pulled out and macheted severely.
“As if they were not satisfied with the action, they later shot him in the forehead and threw his body inside the well in the compound,” he said.
Our source added that fear of the sporadic shootings from the attackers did not allow people in the neighbourhood to intervene until the hoodlums completely carried out their dastardly act and left unhindered.
An indigene of Ezzama community in the council also disclosed that the group equally visited his place the same night and killed a wheel barrow pusher popularly known as Nwaghotara Ije.
According to him, the gang met the barrow man in his home while he was sleeping on the mat outside the house apparently because of the hot weather and forcefully took him to a popular junction known as God is Love and shot him dead.
It was further gathered that the late Ifeanyi’s girl friend has surrendered herself for interrogation at Onueke Divisional Police headquarters while the body of the man was removed from the well and deposited at the morgue.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police could not be reached about the time of filing this report.
