Aiyenuro Joshua, the official barber of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, is set to attempt a Guinness World Record for the longest haircut marathon from June 10 to 17, 2025, at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The announcement was made by Blessing Akinlosotu, President and CEO of the African Civil Society Forum (AFRICSOF), during a press briefing in Abuja.

Akinlosotu, speaking on behalf of AFRICSOF in collaboration with Joshua’s T-Jos Signature, said the initiative aims to inspire African youth and drive a skills revolution. “If achieved, the Record of Longest Haircut in the World would not only catapult young Joshua to global limelight and empowerment, but much more, would drastically reposition him as a viable human tool to generate consciousness for Skills Revolution in the continent, especially in Nigeria,” he stated.

He highlighted Africa’s underrepresentation in Guinness World Records, noting that despite the continent’s youthful population, only a small fraction of the 60,000 record holders in 2022 were African, with Nigeria holding fewer than 50.

“This has become an open challenge to us in AFRICSOF, explaining the passion, energy, and resources we intend to invest and mobilise for this Project,” Akinlosotu said.

The project extends beyond the marathon, with Phase Two focusing on skill acquisition programs and campaigns against social issues like drug abuse, illegal migration, and cybercrime. Akinlosotu called for support from the public and private sectors, media, religious institutions, and celebrities, emphasising that the initiative aligns with human character building and national transformation.

“This dream must not die, this agenda must not fail,” he urged, describing it as a “Special Project Vehicle” to awaken African youth talent globally.

The event has garnered endorsements from celebrities and organisations, with AFRICSOF promising regular updates on planning and implementation.
