Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been charged to strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing towards the progress and development of the country.
Director General Brig Gen Yushau Ahmed said this could be achieved by the Corps members when they play their roles well to enthrone quality leadership and good governance by actively participating as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad hoc staff to conduct free, fair and credible 2023 general elections.
The NYSC helmsman stated this in an address to mark the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch A Stream 1 orientation course exercise nationwide on Tuesday.
Represented in Rivers State by the Coordinator, Mr George Mfongang, Gen. Ahmed further called on the Corps members to exhibit the values of patriotism, hard work, diligence and resilience in the discharge of their duties at all times.
He warned them not to meddle in the local politics of their host communities but rather, to remain neutral and apolitical while exhibiting a high level of discipline and be guided by their oath of allegiance and the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws.
Continuing, he assured the Corps members that the scheme’s management was in constant liaison with security agencies and other critical stakeholders to ensure their safety at all times while fulfilling their other essential needs in the service year.
A total of 1,700 Corps members deployed to Rivers State successfully completed the three-week orientation course exercise in NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State.
