The management of Starfield College, Fagba, Lagos, has rewarded two students for their outstanding performance in the May/June 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

At the valedictory service for the SS3 class of 2023 students, the two whiz kids, Emillia Sholaja and Tobiloba Salami, were showcased to parents, guests and other students for their academic feats.

In the May/June 2023 WASSCE, Emillia obtained eight A’s and one B. She recorded A’s in Economics, Civic Education, Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science and Catering Craft Practice. She got B in English Language and 346 in the 2023 UTME.

Tobiloba, in the school exam, made eight A’s and one B. He got A’s in Commerce, Financial Accounting, Economics, Government, Civic Education, Mathematics, Computer Science and Catering Craft Practice. The whiz kid obtained B2 in English Language and 294 in the UTME.

For her academics feat, Emillia emerged the 2023 valedictorian of Starfield College and bagged the director’s excellence award, best in Physics, and joint best in Chemistry and best student in Science.

Other outstanding results of the college in WASSCE were from Abioye Ifeoluwa,  seven A’s; Nwosu Kossiochukwu, seven A’s; Paul Emmanuel, seven A’s; Seth-Ayodele Boluwatife, six A’s; Adeladan Fathia six A’s; Daniel Eniola, six A’s; Obiekwele Blessing six A’s; and Obiekwele Joy, six A’s.

The college also showcased 11 students with high scores in the 2023 UTME: including Emillia, with 346; Akintude Temidayo, 302; Kusoro Victor, 301; Paul Emmanuel, 301; Adeniyi Adeboyin, 295; Ohonusi David, 295; Ajala Emmanuellla, 294; Salami Tobiloba, 294; Obiekwele Joy, 293; Banjo Fiyinfoluwa, 292; and Aina Ayokunmi, 290.

Emillia told The Education Report that she was happy with her performance in WASSCE and UTME. She attributed her success to the work of her teachers and the director of studies, Mr. Chris Eigbe, who pushed for her to attain the results.

The 16-year-old from Osun State, who wants to study Software Engineering at Babcock University, said, as soon as she entered the Science class, “I Knew I had to work hard.” 

In his address, the Director of Studies, Mr. Eigbe, commended the performance of the class of 2023 in the school examination and in the UTME.

Eigbe also appreciated his teachers for producing good results in the May/June 2023 WASSCE and UTME.  He appreciated parents for keep faith with the college.

He charged the 82 graduands to remain worthy ambassadors of the college, focus on their next phase of life and avoid bad companies.

Principal of the school, Mrs. Sara Oyinloye, said the valedictory service is meant to celebrate not only the end of a chapter but also the start of a new and existing journey for each and every one of the graduating students.  She said throughout the years, the graduands displayed an unwavering commitment to excellence, dedication to learning, and a spirit of resilience.

“And we know without any doubt that they have been groomed for such a time as this to make a great impact in our nation and the world at large.

“As we reflect on their accomplishments, let us not forget the countless hours of hard work, prayers, burning of the midnight candle, and the many other scarifies that have ultimately led to this triumph, “said she

Oyinloye acknowledged the outstanding performance of the graduands in external examination and also in the UTME, while stating that many scored above 300 in the UTME.

The principal praised the vision and commitment of the Administrative Head of Starfield Schools, Mrs. Juliana Eigbe and the Director of Studies, Mr. Chris Eigbe for his quest for excellence, commitment, intelligence and uncommon sacrifice for the graduands and the college.

Classmates of Emillia showered encomium on her for making the set proud with her outstanding performance in WASSCE and in the UTME.

Some of the classmates said they see Emillia as one of their teachers rather than as a colleague, who help to solve problems during group discussion and that they were not surprised by her results in WAEC and UTME.

“We don’t see her as our mate but as our teacher.  She helps to solve some problems we don’t understand.  She is like a robot, before you ask her a question, she provides the answer. She is the Artificial Intelligence of our class we expected the good results she achieved, “they stressed.
