It was an amazing cultural display as Starfield College pupils, teachers, management and even parents showcased their different cultures.

The display of different cultures was part of activities to mark the 25th anniversary of Starfield College.

Among the Nigerian cultures displayed by the pupils, their parents, teachers and management include Efik, Igbo, Fulani, Yoruba and Benin.

Aside from wearing different cultural outfits, on display were also different Nigeria foods.

The colourful event started with prayer in the three ethnic groups, Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa while the national anthem was recited in Yoruba.

As part of the activities for the cultural day, the pupils presented Bata and Efik dance. And others showcased the Hausa wedding, Yoruba Oriki/Ewi and Igbo chieftaincy ceremony. Eyo Masquerade also entertained guests.

In his speech, the Director of Studies, Mr. Chris Eigbe said the college 25th anniversary is two folds, thanksgiving service and cultural day.

Eigbe explained that the cultural day is for the pupils, teachers, management and parents to showcase their different cultures through dressing, dance and food.

Principal of the college, Mrs. Sara Oyinloye said the cultural day is meant for the pupils to learn and know about their culture, way of life, adding, “we want our children to dress in their traditional attire.

Oyinloye appreciated parents for dressing their children in different traditional attire and revealed that different traditional food were on display.

The guest speaker, Tunji Sotimirin, who spoke on ‘Preserving our cultural heritage’, lauded the college management for providing the opportunity for the children to display and know their different cultures.

He added: “Culture is the bedrock of our nation development, which the children need to know and learn. Schools need to celebrate cultural day every year, so that the pupils will know and learn their culture and that of others.

“Nigeria will be better off if we go back to our culture, which teaches morale values and principles. Our leaders, parents and teachers must leave by example because the children are watching our every moves and actions.”

A parent, Alhaji Abdulgafar commended the school management and teachers for impacting knowledge on the students.

He acknowledged that parents have invested on their children and prayed that they would reap their reward.

Abdulgafar appreciated the different cultural displayed by Starfield College students and noted that celebrating the cultural day, the school management is helping to ensure the pupils learn and know the different cultures in the country.
