St. Catherine of Siena (Green house) emerged winner and lifted the prestigious trophy at the just concluded 6th biennial Inter House Sports competition of Dominican Nursery and Primary School held at the school field where six different houses competed for different events.

St. Catherine of Siena came tops with highest numbers of gold medals while St. Agnes Montepulciano aka Pink house clinched the second position and St. Thomas Aquinas aka Blue House came third position. 

Speaking after the meet, the School Head and Administrator, Rev. Sr Joy Okocha said;  “I am very happy that St. Catherine of Siena emerged winner and lifted the prestigious trophy. In the spirit of sportsman, there is no victor, no vanquish.”

She added “I feel very happy seeing these young and vibrant pupils competing for their houses and I remembered in the past that inter house sports competition was the bedrock of the international competition where coaches and umpires go to school to scout for athletes’. I am overwhelmed with the level of preparation from all the houses. The staff have done well and have worked tirelessly to see that this day become a reality”.

The head of school further stated that extracurricular activities brought a balance to the academic lives of the pupils and that is why we chose the theme, ‘Balancing Books and the track: The true champions’.

“Our core value is to form the head, hand and mind in the Dominican tradition. We have to balance school with sports so that education will not be one sided since it is said that all works are no play makes Jack a dull boy.

“We have seen people not only making it in the academic world and also through sports” and this is why we creating a balance because not everyone would want the white-collar job in the nearest future especially with the advent of AI. “It was a keenly contested event where Green house that took the third position at the last inter house sports however they distinguished themselves by emerging the overall winner today”.

Also speaking at the event, the chairperson, Mrs. Ekpobadarho Roseline said she was pleased with the level of preparation exhibited by the school and the pupils displayed good sportsmanship.

“I am very happy that this year’s inter house started on time and every child participated in at least one event. All houses paraded first, tug of war by the parents and the mascot added glamour to event”

St Martin de Porres aka Orange House won the march past event while St. Catherine of Siena was second and third position went to St. Dominic’s House.

Other events competed for included football, volleyball, tug of war, high jump, long jump shot put, Chess, Badminton, Swimming and table tennis.
