The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) in Benue State have joined in the nationwide protest over salary arrears owed to members.
This follows the recent breakdown of dialogue between the Ministers of Education and Labour, and the Joint Action Committee (JAC), of the two bodies.
The unions led by the Chairman of the Joint Action Committee, Moses Girgir, held the protest at the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Makurdi, (JOSTUM), the Benue state capital.
The unions demanded that their 2022, four months withheld salaries and 12 months arrears of 25% and 35% salary award of 2023 be paid.
They also demanded that a committee be reconstituted to conclude re-negotiations of the 2009 Federal government NASU and SSANU agreement.
The JAC Chairman supported by the DVC, Admin JOSTUM, Comfort Tuleun urged the federal government not to interfere with the contributory pension savings.
