A date for the trial of  Simon Ekpa has been revealed amid reports of the Finnish-based Nigerian losing his lawyer.

The Biafra agitator was arrested in Finland in November 2024 on suspicion of inciting violence and alleged links to terrorism.

Ekpa’s assets were also frozen by the Finnish authorities while he remains in detention in Kylmäkoski Vankila (Kylmäkoski Prison), one of the world’s toughest prisons.

According to a BBC Pidgin report, Ekpa’s lawyer, Ilkka Kopra, is no longer representing him, and he has hired another because the former has retired.

The aforementioned news outlet also disclosed that Ekpa’s new lawyer, Kaarle Gummerus, shared that he has received the pre-trial file of the case.

Gummerus added that Ekpa’s court appearance is scheduled for June 2025.
