Seplat Energy Plc has been recognised with the Best in Sustainability Reporting Award at the inaugural Corporate Reporting Award ceremony, organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and NGX Regulation Ltd (NGX RegCo).
The award ceremony, held in Lagos, honoured the top 30 most capitalised companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange Ltd (NGX) for their 2022 financial reporting year. It highlighted ICAN and NGX RegCo’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and international best practices within the private sector.
The evaluation criteria encompassed financial reporting, corporate governance, and sustainability reporting. ICAN President, Dr. Innocent Okwuosa, commended NGX RegCo for its efforts in enhancing disclosures and reporting among listed companies.
Dr Okwuosa acknowledged the evolving nature of corporate reporting, emphasising the growing importance of social and environmental disclosures alongside traditional financial reporting. He stated that the award, initially limited to 30 NGX-listed companies, will be expanded to include all listed companies in the future.
NGX RegCo CEO, Mr Olufemi Shobanjo, stressed the significance of transparency in driving economic growth. He emphasised that transparency ensures full disclosure of information, enabling informed decision-making by the public.
Seplat Energy’s CFO-designate, Mrs Eleanor Adaralegbe, and Director of External Affairs & Social Performance, Mrs Chioma Afe, received the award on behalf of the company.
In 2021, Seplat Energy unveiled a new corporate strategy focused on building a sustainable business and delivering energy transition. These ambitions are underpinned by sustainability principles, with each comprising three pillars that define the company’s business strategy through specific initiatives promoting sustainability across its operations.
“Sustainability is now embedded at all levels and across all operations at Seplat Energy,” stated Mrs Adaralegbe, expressing gratitude to ICAN and NGX RegCo for the recognition and professionalism.
