Separate idols worshipping from culture, Oluwo tells Ifa worshippers

From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi, has given Ifa worshippers a condition they must fulfil if they want him to stop talking about them.

The monarch warned the idol worshippers to stop relating their religion with the culture and tradition of Yoruba.

In a statement made available to Daily Sun by his spokesperson, Alli Ibrahim, the monarch maintained that he remains the custodian of custom and tradition and he must protect it.

“Nobody is saying you should not worship idols, but for a person to say that idol worshipping is a culture of Yoruba, you have me to contend with.

“Nobody can take our culture from us. We are born with it. Christianity is not culture and it is not tradition. Islam is not a culture or tradition. Idol worship is not a culture or tradition. It is a way of worship. Let everybody worship what they want but don’t mix it with the beautiful, great Yoruba culture and tradition.

“I can not tolerate idol worship because of my office. I hate idols with passion. I advise those that are worshipping it to desist,” Oluwo said.
