As Muslims in Lagos East Senatorial District, Lagos State, and across Nigeria join the global Muslim community in celebrating the sacred festival of Eid-El-Kabir, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking and Currency, has extended warm felicitations and urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the profound lessons of this holy occasion.
Eid-El-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant religious observances in Islam. It commemorates the unwavering faith and absolute submission of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham, AS) to the will of Almighty Allah, who was prepared to sacrifice his beloved son in obedience to divine command. This ultimate act of devotion exemplifies trust, selflessness, and piety—qualities that continue to inspire Muslims worldwide.
In his heartfelt message, Senator Abiru reflected on the spiritual and social significance of Eid-El-Kabir, noting that the festival is more than a religious ritual. “Eid-El-Kabir is a time for Muslims to renew their faith, to reflect on the virtues of sacrifice, humility, and charity, and to demonstrate compassion to those less fortunate in society,” he stated.
He explained that the symbolic act of sacrificing an animal during this festival and sharing the meat with family, friends, and especially the poor and vulnerable, underscores the importance of generosity and social responsibility. “This tradition fosters a spirit of inclusiveness and community cohesion, reminding us that true sacrifice entails caring for others and strengthening the bonds that unite us,” the senator added.
Senator Abiru also highlighted the broader lessons of Eid-El-Kabir, calling on Nigerians to embrace unity and solidarity. “In these times, when our nation faces economic, social, and political challenges, Eid calls upon us all to transcend our differences—whether religious, ethnic, or political—and to come together as one people,” he said. He stressed that national development requires collective effort and mutual respect.
Urging Nigerians to support their leaders, Senator Abiru particularly commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for its strategic efforts to revitalize the Nigerian economy, enhance infrastructure, and restore public confidence. “We must stand behind our leaders as they navigate the complex task of nation-building. Progress is achievable when we act with unity of purpose and resilience,” he affirmed.
Addressing his constituents in Lagos East, Senator Abiru reassured them of his unwavering commitment to representing their interests and driving development in key areas such as economic empowerment, youth engagement, infrastructural advancement, and social inclusion. “Together, we can build stronger, more prosperous communities that contribute meaningfully to the growth and stability of our great nation,” he declared.
As the country joins the world in celebrating Eid-El-Kabir, Senator Abiru urged all Nigerians to use this period of spiritual renewal to deepen their commitment to ethical values, mutual understanding, and peaceful coexistence. He encouraged citizens to reflect on their individual roles in shaping Nigeria’s future, emphasizing that the spirit of sacrifice should extend beyond the festival into daily life and civic responsibility.
In closing, Senator Abiru prayed that Almighty Allah accepts the sacrifices and prayers of the faithful, blesses Nigerian families with peace and prosperity, and grants wisdom and strength to the nation’s leaders. He wished all Muslims a joyous, safe, and spiritually fulfilling Eid-El-Kabir celebration.
“Eid Mubarak to all, and may this blessed season inspire hope, unity, and renewed dedication to building a Nigeria that works for every citizen,” he concluded.
