The Senate has approved the appointment of Professor Melvin Ayogu to the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), following the adoption of a report from its Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions.
Presenting the report during plenary on Tuesday, the committee’s Vice Chairman, Senator Osita Izunaso, affirmed that Ayogu’s nomination aligned with existing legal provisions.
“He possesses the expertise and knowledge to hold the position. There was no petition against him. He has been cleared by the police and other relevant security agencies and he tendered his asset declaration slip from the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB),” Izunaso stated.
Following the confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the committee and congratulated Ayogu on his appointment. He urged him to contribute meaningfully to the CBN’s mandate, particularly in addressing challenges within the financial sector and the broader Nigerian economy.
