Yobe State is set to host the fifth edition of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum summit, a platform established to address the region’s security and economic challenges.

Commissioner of information, Home Affairs and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego announced in Maiduguri during an interaction with journalists that the three-day event scheduled for January 29 to 31 will be held in Maiduguri, Borno State to ensure adequate logistic provisions to attendees.

“This event will provide a crucial platform for discussions aimed at restoring peace and rebuilding communities in the Lake Chad Basin,” he discussed.

He said the outcomes of the forum would lay the groundwork for a more hopeful and resilient future for all affected communities in the Lake Chad region.

“By hosting this forum, Yobe State is demonstrating its commitment to fostering regional stability and collaboration,” he explained.

With protracted terrorist and insurgent attacks in the region and massive displacements  of civil population, obstruction of means of livelihood, the summit is believed to be timely.

Lake Chad consists of most states in the North East, neighbouring nations of Niger, Chad and part of Cameroon. The area is known for its agricultural productivity due to expanse of arable land. But over a decade of Boko Haram violence has turned the region to a theatre of violence.
