From Bamigbola Gbolagunte, Akure

Some members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday defected to the Action Alliance (AA).

The defectors spread across different local government areas of the state said they decided to join the AA because of their love for the masses, saying the party is the only true party that has the interest of the downtrodden masses at heart.

Others who defected to the party were members of a non-governmental organization, The Great Vision, who were until recently members of the SDP in Osun State.

The defectors were received by the National Chairman of the party, Hon Adekunle Rufai Omoaje, at the Southwest zonal meeting of the party held in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

A former leader of the APC who spoke on behalf of the defectors, Prince Adegoroye Oladimeji, said they were tired of the ruling party as the party was not keen about the welfare of the masses.

He said the APC had failed to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, adding that the party had thus failed the masses.

Receiving the defectors, Hon Omoaje said the party would not discriminate against the defectors as all members of the party would be treated equally and be given the opportunity to thrive politically.
