Screenwriters Guild of Nigeria has inaugurated its new executive members with Yinka Ogun as the new president.
The event, which held in Lagos recently, was graced by seasoned scriptwriter, Kingsley Omoefe, Elena Igwe, chairman Board of Trustee, and veteran screen writer, Franka Brown amongst others.
Speaking to Saturday Sun, Yinka Ogun assured that he would make the operations of Screenwriters Guild more technology-driven.
“We are going to set up a website, have it run in such a way that we can monitor the other chapters. We are also going to be having monthly meetings, online meetings with all the chapters, including all the heads of the chapters. All these things are possible with technology. Those are some of the things that we’re going to do differently. We will also revive a number of the activities that the guild was known for,” he said.
Ogun equally spoke on his strategies to ensure that more people join the guild. “The truth is you have to make the guild attractive. When the guild becomes attractive, the people will gravitate towards you. It’s not about going on a membership drive; it’s about making the guild so attractive that people outside will want to join.”
Meanwhile, the new president plans to organise Screenwriters Guild Awards before the end of the year.
