Ex Super Eagles International and captain, Henry Nwosu has disclosed that the Sam Okawaraji U -16 football tournament for secondary schools in the country will kick off soon in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Nwosu made the revelation when he paid a courtesy call to the former chairman of the Iwuanyanwu Football Club and present President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu in office.
According to the ex Nigerian mid fielder, the tournament will feature 37 teams from the States across the federation including the FCT,Abuja.
Nwosu added that the tournament will also be used to harness young talents and unify the country as well as imortalising the late football legend,Samuel Okwaraji who incidentally hails from Imo State.
Iwuanyanwu who was conferred with the patron of the tournament in his response vows mobilise support from the governors of the Southeast zone to actualise the tournament.
He described football as a serious uniting factor in the country, as well as a lucrative sport that empowers the youths, adding that Nigeria would benefit from the tournament at this time.
In his own contribution, the Imo State Football Association Chairman, Ifeanyi Dike, represented by Mr. Charlse Nnadi (TIGANA) board member and Mr. Godfrey Ndudi, Secretary, said the association would appreciate the support of Imo State Govenrment in hosting the tournament in Imo State.
