In his recent Rotary District 9111 maiden edition of DG speaks, the pioneer District Governor, Rtn. Dr Oluwole Kukoyi paid glowing tribute to all the guests from Nigeria and the diaspora, including royal fathers who attended his inauguration penultimate week at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Ikeja.
He was quick to promise a fresh start in his quest for the glory of the new District which commenced in earnest with his recent visits to about five locations of the club within one week of his assumption of office in Lagos
As the new District Governor spoke on his plans and projections for the future, he did a brief highlight on the memorandum of understanding with Olabisi Onabajo University on sickle cell and District 9111 as well as on issues on maternal and child health with groups in Singapore and India. He equally shared his initiative on the Friendship Exchange with the maiden visit of rotarians from Tanzania ana Uganda, who witnessed his inauguration.
The District Governor reminded rotarians that they must be the change we see in the world as espoused by the late Mahatma Gandhi of India. In the rotary world, he stressed, the sun never set as the picture is bright and that brightness is the rotarians present in over 200 countries in the world.
In a brief interview with The Sun Newspaper in his office, the new District Governor clarified that the creation of the new District 9111 was a product of the split of former District 9110 into two, to form Districts 9111 and 9112.
At a time when members of former District 9110 were more than five thousand and difficult to manage, the then District applied to the international headquarters for a split and after fulfilling the conditions attached, the request was granted.
He promised to promote inclusivity of all members’ welfare as well as other needs to discourage members leaving the club at random.
A medical doctor by profession, Rtn. Dr Oluwole Kukoyi was variously trained at the University of Ibadan, Kings College Hospital, London, Thomas Jefferson University Institute in Philadelphia, U S A, and an MBA from the Business School in the Netherland.
He is currently Chief Medical Director Ace Medicare Clinics Ota, Ogun State, and happily married to Rev Mrs Kukoyi with four children, all Paul Harris Fellow.
The celebral and erudite Rtn. Oluwole Kukoyi joined Rotary Club of Ota in 1984, from where he rose rapidly through the ranks over the years.
He is currently the National Coordinator of Rotary Internationals Inter country committee( ICC), which currently has relationships with Britain and Ireland and Turkey.
