The Rotary Club of Greenfield, Okota, Lagos has donated five grinding machines to women within Okota environ.

The donation, which saw the Club doling out empowerment funds to the women to support their business activities, was made during the working visit of the District Governor, Dr Kukoyi and his team, to the Club last week.

The DG commissioned other empowerment projects for women in Greenfield Estate, inspected some ongoing projects and participated in the induction ceremony of six new members into the club.

Speaking during the event, the president of the club, Nnanna Achiugo, described the empowerment as one of the things Rotary does to impact humanity.

He told the women that Rotary Club of Greenfield is always available to lend a helping hand to them, emphasising that all they needed to do was to put a phone across to them and they would respond to their needs.

He said: “We are here to empower the women so that they can also go and make an impact in their families. The machines are not for sale. We are always there for you. A phone call will make an impact.”

In his comment, Dr Kukoyi commended the Club members for what they have done so far and the projects that are still ongoing. He said: “This is one of the things we are doing to impact humanity and I am happy that you have done it. You have given these to those who need them. There is a purpose for this and that is to use it to generate and make money. When one woman is empowered, a family is empowered and the community is made up of families, so in essence you are also empowering the community. I want to thank you for doing this continuously.”

Expressing their gratitude to the club, one of the women said she lacked words to express her happiness but prayed that God would continue to replenish their purse.

For Madam Beatrice, the club has provided a means of livelihood to her and her family. She remained grateful and prayed for God’s blessings on the club’s members. She said: “I am so happy for what they offered me. They really gave me food for my family. For the past nine years, nobody has cared for us. I have been struggling to find food for my children and send them to school or to learn handiwork, but with what the club has given to me, I am so grateful. I thank them and may God bless them.”

Mrs Favour Emmanuel also was full of joy at the gesture. She said: “I can’t believe that this is happening to me. I am married but things are not easy. I am happy that I have been empowered by this rotary club. May God bless them.”
