Reports from Algeria indicated that Super Eagles’ manager, Gernot Rohr is being considered for the Algeria National Team coaching job.
According to reports from Algiers, the Algerian Football Federation (AFF), President, Kheiredine Zetchi and his executives were keenly interested in luring the German coach from Nigeria and had shortlisted him for the plum portfolio. It would be recalled that Algeria recently parted ways with Rabah Madjer, following a poor run of results that saw the national team lost to Iran, Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde and Portugal in their last four friendlies.
Algerian sports newspaper, Le Buteur was reporting that the qualities that endeared Rohr, who still has a contract with Nigeria Football Federation till 2020 to the Algerian football big wigs is his fluency in French as well as his knowledge of African football.
“The French speaking coach is knowledgeable about African football having handled Niger, Burkina Faso and Gabon national teams and knows the mentality of Algerian players as he has managed French clubs Bordeaux, OGC Nice and Nantes”, the sports paper quoted.
