The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that the road traffic crashes (RTC) in Oyo State between January 1st and December 27th 2024 reduced by 39 per cent if compared with figures recorded within the same period in 2023.
The Sector Commander of FRSC in Oyo State, Corps Commander Rosemary Alo, made the disclosure in the figures of RTC, numbers of injured persons, people that lost their lives to road accidents, and numbers of people that were involved in the road mishaps.
She stated that a total of 495 crashes were recorded in 2023, while 304 were recorded in 2024. The figure showed that the accidents reduced by 191 in 2024, representing 39 per cent reduction.
Alo said 1,321 persons were injured in 2023, and 779 were injured in 2024. The data showed that the number of injured persons reduced by 542 persons, representing a reduction of 41 per cent.
She stated that a total of 270 persons lost their lives to RTC in 2023 in the state, while the number reduced by 48 to 222 in 2024. It represented 17.8 per cent reduction.
The data also showed that 2, 935 persons were involved in the road accidents in 2023 and 1, 795 in 2024, representing 1,140 reduction. When put on percentage, the reduction stood at 38.8 per cent.
In 2023, a total of 794 vehicles were involved in road accidents, while the number reduced by 382 to 412 in 2024, representing 48.1 per cent decrease.
The FRSC boss in the state said the efforts of the sector command yielded positive results in 2024 in reducing road traffic accidents.
Alo also expressed the readiness of the sector command to reduce road traffic crash to the minimum in Oyo State in 2025, as she reflected on the 2023 and 2024 data.
“If the motorists and the entire public imbibe the road culture, the present rate of crashes will be crashed further. Hence we are appealing to them to ensure that they adhere strictly to the various traffic rules,” Alo said.
