Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has constituted an 18-member committee to oversee the activities of the Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd).
This is just as he reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to upholding democratic processes in Rivers State.
Ibas was appointed by President Bola Tinubu to administer the affairs of Rivers State after the declaration of emergency and suspension of the governor of the State, Siminalayi Fubara, for six months. The House of Representatives had set up its own committee before it went on the Sallah and Easter break.
Akpabio made the announcement during plenary upon resumption yesterday. The committee is to be headed by the Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele.
In his remarks, the Senate President explained that the committee was created to ensure transparency and accountability in the state’s governance.
This, he continued, is critical in ensuring effective legislative oversight in Rivers State. He charged the committee to commence its oversight duties without delay, stressing the urgency of their assignment.
Other members of the committee include Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe, Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone and the Clerk of the Senate.
