Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, has warned criminals to stay away, promising them baptismal of fire: “The command arrested 28 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and murderers and rescued 10 victims along Kom Kom in Oyigbo Local Government.”
He told the Inspector General of Police [IGP] Conference in Abuja: “My vision is to focus on proactive initiatives designed to deny safe havens to criminal elements. The command has undertaken a comprehensive reassessment of its crime prevention strategies with community policing serving as the foundation element of approach.
“I have charged my officers to uphold the highest standard of professionalism, discipline, dedications integrity and transparency in the course of their duties.
“They should also shun corruption, illegal duties to imbibe community policing, which will enable the public and police to flush out criminals.
“Within three months, we have burst criminal hideouts and arrested suspects. Operatives stormed hoodlums’ dens through credible intelligence and arrested four suspects terrorising Oyigbo.
“Police operatives in Rumuji Division conducting stop-and-search operation along the East-West Road, intercepted a black Toyota Sienna with Reg APR 455 HW and recovered 2,000 tons of 48 VDC power system cabinets identified as property of a telecommunication company.
“Operatives black-spots in Mile 2, Oyigbo, Waterside, Owerri-Eleme Expressway, Etche and arrested some suspects for kidnapping and armed robbery, rescuing six victims. Also police arrested three suspects who specialised in “one chance” at Artillery Junction, Port-Harcourt. We are not taken chances with the criminals.
“Operatives arrested two suspects for child trafficking and rescued four victims. The suspects allegedly conspired to defraud under the pretence of facilitating baby adoption.
“Police with Rumunduru youth, arrested two fake pastors and a suspected ritualist and occultist in Rumunduru in Obio/Akpor LG. “We recovered one cartridge, one sword, fake naval passport, thousands of people’s pictures, one leg of children’s shoe and spiritual materials.
“Operatives arrested five suspects involved in different crimes in Trans Amadi Zoo, Port-Harcourt. We rescued three victims while demanding a ransom of N2million.”
