Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has vowed never to do the bidding of a few Nigerians who want him to do the unthinkable things nor would he betray his people (citizens of Rivers State) for whatever reason.
Wike made this vow during the flag Off ceremony of Igwuruta internal roads in Ikwere Local Government of the state, with the presence of Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu who flagged off the project.
“I can’t sell my people. I will never betray them and I will never do the bidding of a few Nigerians, I will only do the bidding of every Nigerian. No amount of threat can make me disappoint my people. My words remain my words,”
Wike who turned a vocalist at the event assured the contractor for the roads of prompt payment but cautioned that due diligence must be followed to deliver quality jobs. He warned the youth in the community to desist from any act capable of slowing down the work.
“The youths must be wary, you must not cause any trouble for the contractor or other workers. Don’t let anyone distract the contractor. The contractor would engage you. This is not an oil company contract, it’s a road contract for your own good. So your support is needed to see it complete in line with the set target,” he stated.
The governor who also mocked his opponents charged the paramount ruler of Igwuruta to mobilise his people for support and understanding as work commences. “We’re an example of good governance, bringing basic infrastructure to the people matters a lot. Don’t allow politicians to deceive anymore. Those of you in APC, while you were in power, what impact did you bring to the people of Igwuruta,” he questioned.

He expressed fear over INEC ability to deliver fair, credible and acceptable elections in 2023. “I don’t know what, if what INEC is saying they can deliver. They are making promises. If they keep their promises I will be happy. Abuja does not vote, it’s the people here that would vote. If they can deliver let the world see the results,” he added.
On his part, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu admonished Wike not to be distracted by some persons who are bent on wreaking his (Wike) administration at all costs.
Ikpeazu who took Wike to the Biblical Leader (Nehemiah) who steadfastly rebuilt the broken wall and city of Jerusalem even in the face of opposition from— Sanballat and Tobiah who swore to stop the good works of Nehemiah.
The Abia State Governor who turned preacher said, “Don’t be daunted. As you set to rebuild Rivers State, you would have two sets of people. Many will criticise you, they would wage war against you as Sanballat and Tobiah did. As you work, don’t forget that you would have two sets of people by your side: Those who will join you in rebuilding Rivers State and the other set are the Sanballat and Tobiah- the opposition. So beware of them. Nehemiah remained focused until he finished the good works,” he charged.
