House of Representatives has constituted seven ad-hoc committees to ensure the smooth running of the House pending the constitution of standing committees.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced the ad-hoc committees, at yesterday’s plenary. They are selection, welfare, security, media, rules and business, legislative agenda and ethics and privileges committees.

The Selection Committee, which is saddled with the task of constitution of standing committees, is chaired by the speaker, while the deputy speaker, Benjamin Kalu, would serve as deputy chairman. While each of the state caucuses is expected to nominate a member each to serve in the committee.

The Legislative Agenda Committee is chaired by Julius Ihonvbere; while the Media Committee and the Rules and Business Committee is chaired by Khadirat Abba Ibrahim and Iduma Igariewey respectively. Similarly, Wale Raji would serve as chairman of Welfare Committee, Olawale Olawuyi, chairman, Ethics and Privileges and Mohammed Danjuma Hassan, security.

Meanwhile, Abbas has appointed Musa Krishi as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.

Krishi, former political editor, Daily Trust Newspaper, was the Chief Press Secretary ( CPS) to forearm speaker, Femi Gbajabiamiala. Similarly, Dr Jerry Uhuo was  appointed Special Adviser,  to the Speaker,  on Policy and Strategy.

The parliament adjourned plenary to July 4.
