A Member of the House of Representatives, representing Enugu North/Enugu South Federal Constituency, Chimaobi Atu, has charged Christians across the country to use the Christmas celebration as opportunity to reach out to the less privileged persons around them.

Atu, who gave the charge, while speaking at a Christmas Carol organised by his office to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, said the whole essence of Christmas was the love of God for mankind.

The Christmas Carol, which was attended by the family, staff, friends and well wishers, of the lawmaker, at the National Assembly, featured hymns, Bible reading and other side attractions.

Atu, while noting that the essence of Christmas is giving, exemplified by God, who gave his son Jesus Christ to the world, urged Christian faithful to show love to others, including adherents of other faith, as God does not discriminate.

“This is a season of giving. Jesus came to the earth to liberate us from all sins. And that is the reason we are here to celebrate him. In this season, I urge everyone of us to give.

“There are people you are better than, give to them. Whenever you give, God will give back to you in a thousand fold. And the greatest thing when you give, is the joy you have.”

Atu added: “Don’t give because you see men giving. Don’t give so that people will praise you. But give to the glory of God. I know that the forth coming year will be a blessed year.”
