The prestigious Rembrandt Hotel in Knightsbridge, London, United Kingdom, recently experienced the fire of creative fashion works done in different fabrics from around the African continent.
The fantastically designed collection created by popular, UK-based Nigerian designer, Ade Bakare featured exquisite textiles like Kanga and Leso from Mombasa, Kenya; Payne Boulay from from Ivory Coast; Asò-oke, Adire and Akwete from Nigeria; Kente and Kente-Oke from Ghana. Other fabrics featured in the collection came from Mozambique just as the veritable Ankara took its pride of place on the runway.
The event was the annual Ade Bakare annual fashion show, which had the theme, “The Splendour of African Textiles”, essentially organised to showcase his summer collection.
In his brief remarks at the well attended show, Bakare said the collection brought back memories of his frequent travels across the African continent, especially to participate in fashion shows in Morocco, Ghana, South Africa, Mozambique, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Togo, Rwanda and Sierra Leone, among other countries.
“It’s always an honour to be invited to these beautiful countries, especially to represent the Nigeria creativity industry in the area of exquisite fashion design,” he said.
