A powerful rainstorm struck the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, Kwara State, on Saturday, April 26, causing extensive damage to facilities and properties worth millions of naira.
The heavy rainfall, coupled with strong winds, devastated the camp’s infrastructure.
An anonymous source at the camp told TheSun.ng, “The extent of the damage is significant. Several key facilities within the camp suffered considerable destruction. Among the structures affected are the Multipurpose Hall, the Administrative Block, the Camp Mosque, and several hostel blocks housing corps members and camp officials.
“The rainstorm also left a trail of destruction on the camp’s saluting dais and the newly constructed volleyball court, which had been one of the major attractions within the camp.
“In addition, two vehicles belonging to camp officials were completely wrecked after a mighty tree, uprooted by the fierce winds, crashed down on them, rendering them beyond repair.”
The source urged swift action from authorities to assess the damage and undertake urgent repairs to restore facilities and ensure camp activities continue uninterrupted.
