The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has cautioned Nigerians against raining curses on others online.
He said the act constitutes cyberbullying, which is a criminal offence, and is not covered by freedom of expression as many believe.
The police spokesman said this in an X post on Friday.
“Raining direct curses on someone online is cyberbullying, not expression of freedom or criticism.
“And cyberbullying, which is even different from defamation, is a criminal offence and punishable. Be guided,” Adejobi said.
The police spokesman’s post comes amid an allegation that he orchestrated the arrest of an activist, Olamide Abiodun Thomas for persistently insulting him and the force online.
