Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, is set to conduct last convocation as the Vice Chancellor of University of Abuja (UniAbuja) this weekend.

He is expected to complete his five year term in July 1st, 2024, having been appointed as sixth substantive Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University by the eighth Governing Council of the University at its 53rd extra-ordinary meeting in June, 2019.

Addressing a press conference to herald the 28th convocation activities in Abuja, on Thursday, the Vice Chancellor, said the University has witnessed tremendous transformation, academically and otherwise.

He maintained that the University has strengthen its systems to ensure that students are trained to be job creators using the skills and knowledge, as well as contacts made during their time in school, and not to be roaming the streets in search of unavailable government jobs.

According to him, the Institution has started a new centre called Innovation hub and creative technologies, aimed at improving the general ingenuity, innovation, and creativity of young and even older Nigerians.

Also, as part of efforts to curb the issue of sexual harassment, the Vice Chancellor disclosed that it will be launching a university of Abuja policy in sexual harassment.

Regards to forthcoming convocation, the VC disclosed that 9,172 students who have completed their academic and non-academic programmes have cleared by the University management to participate in the 28th convocation ceremony scheduled for the weekend.

He further disclosed that the figure comprises of 7,896 undergraduate, and 1,276 postgraduate students that would be graduated. “As you know, we have different kinds of academic programmes, we are a dual mode University. The regular programme is producing 6,237; the Centre for Distance Learning and Continuous Education (CDL&CE)
is producing 971; and the Institute of Education also has 688.

“So, the total undergraduate students is 7,896 students, postgraduate school, Masters and PhD have 1,276 students. Out of the undergraduate students, First Class is 41. Second Class Honours (Upper Division) 1,845; Second Class Honours (Lower Division) 4,842; Third Class Degree 1,075; Pass Degree 50; MBBS 43; PhD 151; Masters Degree, including professional Masters is 742; Post-graduate Diploma 383.”
