From James Ojo, Abuja.
Pending his proper arraignment in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), embattled Senator Iyiola Omisore was asked to produce two sureties as bail conditions.
The sureties according to sources must be civil servants in any Federal Ministry and must owned land either in Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja.
Documents to support the ownership of such properties would however be subjected for verification by EFCC before the temporary freedom is granted.
A statement by Diran Odeyemi, spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, explained that a letter handed over to Omisore by the EFCC after several hours of interrogation asked him to produce two serving Directors in any of the federal ministries or agency with who owns land in quarters of Maitama or Asokoro area of Abuja while the Sureties must submit the original C of O of the said landed properties to the commission.
Diran frowned at the conditions saying they would be approaching the court for variation.
“We know too well of a standing instruction to serving civil servants not to stand as sureties in any matter and wonder why EFCC is giving a condition they have already blocked”
Omisore was arrested on Sunday morning at his Maitama residence by operatives of the EFCC who had been on his trail when he did not honour the invitation from the anti-graft agency.
The arrest climaxed a three months hide and seek between EFCC and Omisore, who was the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state during the gubernatorial elections.
He was declared wanted in connection with about N1.3 billion traced to three companies where he had substantial interest.
The money was part of the N4.7 billion disbursed from the office of the National Security Adviser for the Ekiti state gubernatorial election held in 2014.
Instead of honoring the invitation, Omisore decided to drag EFCC to court for N10 billion compesation for causing him public embarrassment.
He also issued a statement condemning the anti graft agency and accused it of becoming a tool in the hands of the Federal government.
The bail conditions were yet to be met as at 4 p.m yesterday.
