A female broadcaster with Ogun State Television (OGTV), Abeokuta, Mrs Bukola Agbakaizu slumped and died in the office on Monday.
Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, Mr Bunmi Adigun confirmed the development.
Adigun said Agbakaizu was preparing for afternoon shift duty at the television station when the incident occurred.
He said the 52-year-old was rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, where doctors pronounced her dead.
“A versatile journalist and a passionate comrade, Bukola served as a former Vice Chairman of OGTV Chapel and was an invaluable member of the Wale Olanrewaju-led Executive.
“Her vibrant spirit and commitment to journalism will be sorely missed, leaving an irreplaceable void in our community.
“She is survived by her two children, her aged mother, and countless colleagues and friends who mourn her loss,” Adigun added.
Meanwhile, former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani has called on medical professionals to raise public awareness about rising cases of sudden death in society.
Taking to X on Wednesday, Sani said, “Increasing cases of people slumping and dying; Samuel,a Kaduna youth corper and Hon Cairo Ojouigboh slumped and died while watching football.
“Mr Akinyele slumped and died during his beloved wife’s birthday event.
“The great singer, Onyeka Onwenu died in a similar circumstance during her performance. A month ago, a police inspector Enang slumped and died shortly after watching the defeat of Real Madrid by Arsenal.
“We just received the sad news of the demise of Mrs Bukola a journalist with the Ogun TV who also reportedly slumped.
“Doctors and other health professionals need to enlighten the public on preventive measures.”
