Amidst rising tension over last Saturday’s presidential election, the  national Coalition for Peace and Unity (NCPU)  has reiterated the need for political parties leaders and their supporters to toe the path of peace.

The Senator Ken Nnamani led Coalition also admonished members of the public to be wary of the various information been circulated about the February 25 polls, noting that the peace of the paramount in the mind of every citizen.

The Coalition, in a statement by its protem National Secretary,  Cairo Ojuogboh,  expressed concerns over some comments credited to some political leaders, stating that such comments are inimical to the peace of the country.

It stated that  “Nigerians should note that in a moment of crisis, the poor masses are mostly the victims, while the rich have ways of taking care of themselves. We should be mindful of inciting statements capable of destroying a peaceful setting.

“Coalition also want to tell the public that social media has a way of misdirecting the public, as such, information coming from these channels should not be taken wholeheartedly. 

“NCPU urges the public to be mindful of the reports they believe because INEC is the body constitutionally empowered to announce election results.

“While we are cautioning the public to be watchful and filter the reports out there before drawing conclusion, it is also very important to note that false reports have a way of causing serious crisis.

“Drawing conclusion before understanding the scenario is not good for peaceful co-existence, because when the truth eventually comes out, the lies and false information will dictate the pace and action.

“The peace Coalition is calling on the public to be careful at this point in time because sentiments are high and people are differs in opinions and approach to issues,” the coalition stated.
