The police in Kano have ordered the restriction of movement in six local councils in the state, where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct re-run elections on Saturday.
A statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa indicated that only those on essential services, such as ambulances, medical emergencies, fire services will be exempted.
According to him, only those accredited by INEC to conduct elections in those locations, including members of the press, will be allowed access to voting centers.
He said that police officers are barred from escorting VIPs/political office holders to all locations where elections will take place, adding that thuggery and importation of thugs by any political interest groups will be resisted.
While noting that carrying of weapons during the rerun election will not be tolerated, he assured that adequate personnel had been deployed to arrest anyone who attempts to break the law.
It could be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct re-run elections for three state assembly constituencies on Saturday. The elections will take place across 66 polling units in Tsanyawa/Kunchi, Kura/Garun Mallam and Tofa/Rimin Gado Local Government Areas.
