The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into a grenade explosion that occurred last Thursday, 3 April 2025, in Idi-Araba, Mushin, Lagos. The blast killed a scrap seller and injured three others, who are now receiving treatment in hospital.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the investigation has begun.
He said the explosion happened when the scrap seller struck a military-grade grenade, causing it to detonate instantly. The injured victims are responding to medical care, while the deceased’s body has been moved to a morgue.
The 81 Division Nigerian Army joined forces with the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team to examine the site on Friday, 4 April 2025. Their efforts aim to uncover how the grenade ended up in civilian hands and ensure the area’s safety.
