From Agaju Madugba, Katsina
A police orderly attached to the Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, Maharazu Dayi was reportedly killed on Tuesday evening by suspected terrorists.
The deceased, Police Corporal Shamsudeen Lawal, was murdered when the hoodlums stormed the Chairman’s residence, apparently on a failed kidnap mission.
Lawal and his family were said to be at home at the time of the attack.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Katsina State Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said Lawal was rushed to a hospital where he died due to gunshot wounds he sustained.
“The incident happened yesterday but our men were mobilised to the scene as the officer was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead,” the PPRO said, noting that three suspects were already in police net in connection with the attack.
The incident further highlights the precarious security situation in Katsina as terrorists continue to hold sway in various parts of the state, attacking residents and abducting others in both rural and urban communities.
On January 15, terrorists hit the General Hospital Kankara, Kankara Local Government Area, where they abducted an unspecified number of medical workers and currently demanding N540 million as ransom for their release.
Earlier on January 7, the police confirmed the massacre of about 21 residents in Baure village, Safana Local Government Area, including members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps.
