Police in Abia have arrested two persons for allegedly vandalizing iron materials of structures at the Aba Textile Mills, Aba, Abia State.

The suspects: Ndubuisi Okoronkwo and Innocent Mbam were reportedly arrested while dismantling iron rods used in the roofing of structures inside the Textile Mill located at the Eziama Industrial Estate, Aba.

It was gathered that the suspects were arrested by men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) following a tip off.

The two suspects were said to have during interrogation, confessed that  they were contracted by one of the managers of the company to cart away the iron materials.

Some residents alleged that the stealing and sale of iron rods at the textile mill had been happening for a long time.

“We have been suspecting that iron rods are being removed from the textile mills. This has gone on over a period of time. You know the Textile mills has been shutdown since the year, 2000.

“Only the managers and their security men know what is happening there. So, we began suspecting them when trucks consistently drive into the company that is no longer producing any product and come out loaded with some rods. We alerted the local security people to be on guard. This was how the crime was exposed.”

Abia State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),  Maureen Chinaka did not  respond to inquiries by newsmen as at the time of filing this report.
