From Lateef Dada, Osogbo
Osun State Police Command has lamented the prolonged closure of courts by the Judiciary Staff Union, saying that the action has affected the force.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Hope Okafor, stated this in Osogbo, yesterday, while parading suspected criminals at the state police headquarters, saying that the police could not grant administrative bail to some suspects because of the strike embarked upon by the judicial workers.
She said, “I hope you all know that Osun State Police Command has nothing to do with the situation, actually, we are feeling the brunt, we are, because we have some suspects whose allegations are bordering on capital offenses and you all know that we have no power to grant bail. So you can imagine the effect that has.
“I want to urge the government of Osun State to do everything to expedite action in resolving that impasse because we are greatly affected,” Okafor said.
Reacting to the question on the cult clash in Ilesa, she disclosed that some suspects have been arrested, but did not reveal the number of suspects for security reasons.
“I can tell you that we are on top of the situation in Ilesa. The truth is that some suspects have been arrested and it will not do the course of investigation any good to reveal how far we have gone and exactly what we are doing. We are taking every necessary step to make sure that the incident is curtailed,” she added.
