Police in Zamfara State have neutralized a group of bandits and recovered AK-47 rifle, Indian hemp and hard drugs.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yezid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement released yesterday in Gusau, the state capital.

The incident occurred when a team of police officers attached to the Special Intervention Squad, led by ASP Bilyaminu Koko, intercepted a group of bandits during surveillance patrol.

The Squad was along the Bobo area going to Mayanchi axis of Anka Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

The bandits, unwilling to subject themselves to peaceful arrest, got in a shootout with the police.

Well prepared to attack, the squad opened fire on the bandits and in the fierce gun battle neutralized the bandits.    

The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, PSC, commended the officers for their bravery and operational effectiveness.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with law-abiding citizens to secure the state, urging the public to provide timely and credible information to help in combating crime.

He encouraged residents to report suspicious activities to the nearest security authority.
