The Nigeria Police have arrested nine suspected illegal Bureau de Change Operators in Kano for alleged trading in foreign exchange.
A statement, Tuesday, by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Umar Kiyawa, said the arrest followed a joint operation by the Police, EFCC and Customs service at various locations where FOREX transactions are carried out in the state.
Locations raided, according to the statement ,included Wappa Bureau De Change, Fagge LGA, Behind CBN Office Nassarawa LGA, Central Hotel, Bompai Road, Nassarawa LGA, Ashton Road and
Also raided were the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA). Kofar Ruwa Motor Park in Dala LGA and Dawanau International Grains Market, Dawakin Tofa LGA, the statement held.
The statement disclosed that,“At the end of the operation, a total of 31 suspect were arrested out of which 22 were screened out for lack of evidence while nine 9 were arrested
It indicated that exhibits recovered from the suspects included thirty-Eight USD ($38:00), One Hundred and Thirteen (CFA 113:00), Nigerien Currency, Four Thousand Eight Hundred and Ten (Cairos 4,810:00) Egyptian Pound, Two Hundred (Birr 200:00) Ethiopian Currency, One (1) POS machine and (6) Two Mobile Phone Devices (Infinix Android & Techno Keypad).
The statement explained that the operation was solely intended to arrest these illegal elements in the sector in order to help stabilise the foreign exchange market, adding that those arrested had been charged to Court 70 No-mansland, Kano, for prosecution. End.
