The Imo State police command has arrested one Uchenna Okpara from Ubomiri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State for allegedly stabbing his in-law, Uchenna Unakalamba, to death with a broken bottle.
A statement from the state police spokesman, Henry Okoye, noted that the suspect stabbed his in-law over a minor quarrel between their children on Thursday.
Okoye said, “Responding to a distress call, police operatives apprehended the suspect and recovered the weapon. The victim was confirmed dead at the hospital, and the suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and subsequent prosecution.”
Also, Okoye disclosed how operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit arrested a notorious kidnapper in the state, Ozioma Dike, after a serious gun battle, which led other members of the syndicate to flee into the bush.
Dike, from Agwa in Oguta Local Government Area of the state, is said to have been terrorising the neighbourhoods of Ogbaku, Ubomiri, and Ohi before he got his fingers burnt.
According to Okoye, an iPhone belonging to a victim was recovered from him after his arrest, as well as a pump-action rifle.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members while Dike remains in custody. He is expected to be arraigned in court after the conclusion of the investigation. The police have assured the public of their commitment to eradicating kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Police Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, continues to intensify efforts to combat violent crimes and maintain peace and security across the state,” Okoye stated.
