The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a legal practitioner, Onuoha, for alleged forgery of documents, which he intended to use to obtain a bank loan.

According to the police, the arrest was carried out on January 22, 2025, in Ikorodu.

The lawyer was alleged to have forged a lease agreement in respect of a property located at Teachers’ Estate, in Ikorodu, which she reportedly submitted to the Bank of Industry to obtain a loan for her pure water production business.

The officers of the Special Fraud Unit, who carried out the investigation, reported that they tracked down the lawyer to Ikorodu on the said date.

The police said she was tracked after she had been severally invited to their station to answer the said allegation of forgery of documents against her but she refused to honour the invitation.

A witness who was at the scene of arrest stated that the lawyer wanted to run into the court premises to evade the arrest but was barred by the security men at the gate of the court and was, therefore, nabbed on along the road around 7:30pm that day.

Commissioner of Police in charge of the Special Fraud Unit, Ayo Omodeinde, who confirmed the arrest, said the lawyer was arrested based on a complaint of forgery submitted to his office in June 2024 and that the lawyer was still in SFU custody for interrogation, while the matter is under investigation to unravel all the facts: “The lawyer was alleged to have forged the lease agreement between her and her landlady and also forged the signature of her landlady, Ngozi Uzoma, and a witness named Titilayo Opeyemi, and submitted the said forged lease agreement with the forged signatures to the Bank of Industry to borrow money.”
