From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi
Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police for Zone 10, Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has called on Nigerians to pray for police officers undertaking rescue missions in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.
Speaking during a familiarisation visit to the Police Command Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, Grimah emphasised the need for citizens to view officers as family members serving the public.
“Police are your friends, and this friendship should be heartfelt,” Grimah said. “The man you invited to clear a barricade is somebody’s son, husband, or uncle. Are you inviting him with care, or do you think his life doesn’t matter? How many of us pray for these officers’ safe return?” He urged citizens to adopt a new initiative of praying for officers, noting it could foster a safer society.
Grimah acknowledged that not all officers exhibit the same character but stressed that many pursue justice diligently without bribes. He commended the Kebbi State Government for supporting the state command and encouraged officers to maintain strong ties with other security agencies.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Bello Sani, highlighted the harmonious relationship between the state government, local governments, and the police, fostering public confidence. He praised Governor Nasir Idris for prompt support on security matters, noting, “The command has adopted proactive strategies to curtail kidnapping, banditry, and other heinous crimes.”
Sani assured Grimah that the fight against violent crimes would continue with high morale among officers.
