Former Governor of Plateau State Sir Fidelis Tapgun has asked the federal government to end what he described as “unnecessary bloodletting on the Plateau.”
He also urged the military to up their games and flush out the bandits terrorising Plateau and the contiguous states.
Speaking with our correspondent in an interview in his residence in Jos on Monday, the former governor, who was also a former minister and former ambassador to Kenya expressed sadness over the Christmas Eve massacre in three local government areas of Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu in which more than 200 people were killed, and the recent killing of 30 people in Mangu.
Tapgun said as professionals, security agents are up to the task of protecting the lives and property of the people.
He said, “I am really sad over the recurring killings on the Plateau for the past three decades decades now. These incidents call for urgent action by the Federal Government whose responsibility it is to protect the lives and property of the citizenry.
“I think it’s time to end this madness and address the issues wholeheartedly. We need to find a common ground on which all of us can co-exist.”
Tapgun commiserated with the government and people of the state for the recent crises in the state.
The former governor also condoled with the affected families and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss
